Six Senses Kyoto, a wellness-oriented luxury hotel, opened its first doors in Japan in April, and ICA was in charge of the overall artwork, from art consulting to installation. The hotel design is inspired by Miyabi, a symbol of the splendor of the Heian period (794-1192), fused with the playful approach of Six Senses’ unique style. The artwork displayed throughout the hotel plays homage to the concept of Hare (special occasions) and Ke (daily life), the Japanese way of living that cherishes the “extraordinary-ordinary” dichotomy that brings an essential balance to the well-being of the people.
As the old capital, Kyoto is a true modern-day testimony where such a way of living lives on. Through the artworks, we create a Six Senses Experience of discovery and depth that lies precisely on the border between elegance and playfulness.
