We worked on the art direction of the Nagasaki Marriott Hotel, which opened in front of the JR Nagasaki Station. The complex topography surrounded by sea and mountains, the lyrical cityscape, the memory of the Nanban trade and the characteristics of Nagasaki that fascinate visitors were key inspirations for the artwork. Focused in the art concept of ‘A Breeze from beyond the sea”, a variety of approaches from traditional Nagasaki crafts such as Hasami pottery and blown glass to graphic art by overseas artists were included to the artwork. With a wide variety of cross-cultural collaborations, the artwork transcends time and sea, taking the art direction closer to what makes Nagasaki unique.
